Abstract

Background. The structure of opinions and views of the central Russian media about the formation and fostering of patriotism and national identity is rather polarized and politicized. Therefore, it is quite topical and urgent to carry out a study to identify the key components of information space, where the notion of patriotism is designed.
Materials and methods. For the research purposes in January 2013 the author collected a bank of texts using the online database East View Publications Publications (http://www.ebiblioteka.ru/) for the period from 2003 to 2013, which was an array of publications of the Russian central media on problems of the patriotism phenomenon. The total number of publications was 1,000 articles. As a data  processing tool the author used the lexical-semantic text analyzer “Lecta”, based on the multi-dimensional content analysis method. On the basis of a theme of each of the following key factors the researcher identified micro topics: communism and patriotism; power and patriotism; geopolitics and the west; leninism and patriotism; socio-political organizations and patriotism.
Results and conclusions. Various subjects relating to the phenomenon of patriotism in the sociological aspect were considered. In general, the thematic section indicates that the subject matter is in focus of the national media. Its peculiarity lies in the politicization, declarative nature and presence of a large amount of publications relating to the activity of socio-political structures and organizations. The phenomenon of patriotism, often acts as an instrument of political struggle and criticism of official power to gain political dividends. Information messages on the creation and implementation of state programs of patriotic education are presented in a neutral manner or ascertain formality, template-like and declarative nature of such decisions.
